While listening to music, some may feel tranquil, some might draw peace from chaos and
some might be able to amplify the sentiment they are going through presently. Music is the part
of my life where I realize the petite things, the missing pieces to my soul. I have always found
music to be my shoulder to cry on, a vent to release my anger and a friend to rejoice with.
The different health benefits of music amaze us humans. Let me start right from a developing
baby in a mother’s womb. When music is played outside the womb, the baby listens to it.
Scientists factually say that this music stimulates the baby’s brain and assists with growth of
brain structures. Music also helps to maintain confidence and relaxation when it is born.
Moreover it can remember this music when it is four months old after being born. This simply
shows us how riveting music’s outcomes can get in the field of health.
I am pretty sure everyone agrees to this statement. There has always been a patch where music
was the only thing that thrived in making me progress. It has made me overcome desolation and
defeat and has given me the courage to still hope for the best even when despair ruled the
situation. Research says that listening to music releases dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is also
known as a “feel-good” neurotransmitter. It is proven that music shrinks stress and it is advised
that people play music while doing their daily chores to calm them down. I follow the same in
my daily life; it lifts my mood and lets me finish my job with ease. I would like to explain this
with the example of my parents. My mother always says that she loathes cooking even though I
have never tasted food better than hers till date. I observed that she always plays music that she
used to listen to when she was my age and that is how her mood is boosted while cooking.
Similarly my father plays party or rock music while driving. This has an enlightening upshot on
all of our experiences in the car! We always enjoy a car ride with some cheerful music.
I would like to explain this with a personal experience. Few years ago, my ten year old cousin
had come home. It was a chill rainy evening and I played some rock music. That music was full
of electrifying guitar notes and drums. When he listened to it, he went rambunctious! He was so
gloomy but the moment the song was played he sprang out of the sofa and started jumping
around and dancing. After some time the next song started playing which was more soothing
and less thrilling. He sat down and within few minutes he zoned out! When I asked him if he
was awake he did not respond as he fell asleep. This indicated the degree of change music can
bring in a person’s mood.
There are times when people like my other cousin feel crestfallen. To them, soothing music did
not do the therapy most of the time. When they listened to music that complemented their
situation they felt better. People feel awakening that is out of the world when they start to relate
to songs, be it music or words.
There are numerous testimonies of Alzheimer’s patients who have remembered because of
music. When music from their youth or music that they used to listen to was played, they
started reminiscing events from their life. This miracle of music has changed lives and reignited
hope in families.
The exact reading of history that leads us to the first time music was ever played or invented is
around forty thousand years in Europe during the Neanderthal Age. Since then human-like
creatures developed into today’s strain of mankind and from there, branches of population
spread out into fresh parts of the world owning unique music. These populations multiplied into
several generations that reach out into our world today with evolved music that we all listen to.
Music is that pure energy that unites people in many cases, like national anthems. When one
travels to a distant place or country that has no hint of his culture of origin, he can revitalize
himself only through the music he has from his land. That music does implausible wonders as it
brings back gazillions of memories and smells of his motherland. Music sways its magic wand
and turns his miserable state of mind into one with great spirits and aspirations! This is the
power of music.
Music has always stirred people to do things they thought they could not. It has simplified the
living of countless people whether it is related to their health or mood. They say music is like
chocolate, almost everyone likes it. I will forever be grateful for the invention of music as it has
continually kept us human beings going with our lives no matter what the obstacle.
“Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.”
– Alphonse de Lamartine
